American actor Johnny Depp has regained his fame as he was seen taking
pictures with fans and signing autographs before the premiere of his new film
"John Doe" at the Cannes Film Festival. This marks his return to a leading
role since his highly publicized trial for defamation.

Depp's fans in the French city of Cannes held up signs that read
"Congratulations Johnny" and "We're sorry."

Depp Impresses Critics

As usual, the Cannes Film Festival lived up to its promise and saw the
appearance of a large group of stars such as Mads Mikkelsen, John C. Reilly,
and Helen Mirren, who dyed her hair blue.

Depp plays King Louis XV in "John Doe," directed by Maiwenn Le Besco, and the
film also stars his character's mistress, who climbed the social ladder to
become his favorite.

Critics have praised the film, which received funding from the Red Sea Film
Festival Foundation in Saudi Arabia, with a total budget of around $22.4
million, but they said the film lacks rhythm.

The French-language film, which has not yet been released in North America,
marks Depp's return as the star of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series,
as he has appeared in few movies and TV shows since his trial ended in June
2022.

An American jury gave Depp a near-complete victory in his defamation battle
with his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, and awarded him more than $10 million
in compensation.
