Spanish coach Xabi Alonso, coach of Bayer Leverkusen, commented on the possibility of coaching Real Madrid.

A few days ago, Radio Marca said that Xabi Alonso will coach Real Madrid next season, succeeding Italian Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti will leave Real Madrid in the summer of 2024, when his contract expires, and he is scheduled to coach the Brazilian national team.

When asked about the possibility of coaching Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso said: “It is still very early. It is September, and we have started the season well, and I must be the first to maintain focus, and that is why I do not want to talk about these matters.”

Alonso is currently coaching Bayer Leverkusen, and has renewed his contract with the club until June 2026.

But the German newspaper "Bild" said that Alonso has a secret agreement with Leverkusen that gives the young Spanish coach the opportunity to leave the team whenever he wants.

Real Madrid is not the only club interested in signing Alonso, who is 41 years old, as he has been linked to taking over as coach of Bayern Munich, succeeding Thomas Tuchel.

Alonso played for Real Madrid for five seasons, then moved to Bayern Munich, where he played for three seasons before retiring in 2017.

Alonso took over as coach of Bayer Leverkusen last October, and with him they finished sixth in the German League last season.

Bayer Leverkusen started the current season very well with Alonso, winning 5 times and drawing once in the first 5 rounds in the German League, and topping the standings with Bayern Munich.

Alonso previously coached Real Sociedad between 2019 and 2022.
